Case of Periimplantitis
Today's case involves a patient who had implants placed around 20 years ago after a window approach, but the implants had to be removed due to peri-implantitis.
This is a photo from before the upper right implant was placed in 2003.
At that time, there was no CT scan available, and due to limited remaining bone volume, bone grafting was performed before implant placement.
This year, the patient is a 65-year-old woman.

Bio-Oss was used for bone grafting in this case.

And on February 3, 2022, after a long absence, the patient visited with discomfort in the area of tooth 17 and symptoms of maxillary sinusitis as shown.
Ultimately, after the removal of the implant at tooth 17 and ongoing observation, the patient's symptoms improved. However, the overall situation, including tooth 36 and others, does not appear to be favorable.
In the end, the overall health condition can indeed have an impact on periodontal disease, and as patients age, especially those with diabetes, it becomes increasingly important to observe and manage their oral health more diligently.
